No saving my settings for server access

Every time I connect to my serve I have to go into site->manage sites and re
enter the server login and password details to gain access. I have several web
site I develop and have to do this every time. I have the check box ticked to
save but it never happens, also how do I backup all these details in case of
crashes.

Some versions of DW have "updaters" that resolve this known issue.
