Default newbie - problem w/godaddy uploading - 01-23-2006 , 04:45 PM

I've been designing a website for my mom and friends. Everything has been going
great and works on my personal testing webspace
http://ads.webmediaexpress.com/RedHat/index.html . Now is the time to upload to
their space at Godaddy. That has been a problem, I've followed their PDF
instructions and can't get it to upload. On the "testing" it comes up with
error. If I log onto the website and go through their control panel, I can
utilize their FTP to upload (go figure?). I want to utilize Dreamweaver MX
2004's potential for maintaining the site and not have to use a different FTP
program. Any suggestions? The account is on Windows hosting, deluxe with ASP.
Thanks, Ann

It's best to ask GoDaddy since a lot of hosts operate differently.

It's several months since this thread last was "alive."

Nonetheless, here goes.

I am having a problem hooking up Dreamweaver 3 with GoDaddy.

I can upload single files, but I can't upload folders.

I can't make new folder up in the godaddy server, though I can if I use their
bare bones hosting manager software to make a folder in their server.

Three of their help people have failed to help me. They were nice, and said,
basically, I don't have an answer, and it is rather out of the scope of what we
do.

Any help here is obviously appreciated.

Don't know what limitations DW3's FTP code may have, but I'd sure
try another FTP program.

I like WS-FTP Pro from Ipswich.

Good luck man

This would be a HOST problem not a DW problem. Talk to GoDaddy.

Here is how I solved my DreamWeaver [DW] to GoDaddy [GD] connection problem:

I just bought hosting from GD for a website that is active on another server.
I intend to move it to GD. When I tried to connect to their server with DW, it
was unsuccessful. I have another ftp program [cuteFTP], it connected at once.
CuteFTP needed just 3 info: Host address, username, and password; the
connection was in a fraction of a second. However, I want to connect with DW
because I prefer working with it. I called GD support, they just asked me to
use cuteFTP or another FTP program, but not DW. When I surfed the internet on
the topic, I saw that I was not alone in experiencing this problem. People
solved their problems mainly by trial and error. I did the same, I am writing
my solution, maybe it will help someone in the future. To connect to GD by DW
you need to input not 3, but 4 entries: [in the following part I assume that
you are already familiar with Site--New connection features of DW]

Host address: 123.456.789.234 (This IP is imaginary, you should have yours on
your account page with GD. However, GD site recommends that you write
ftp://123.456.789.234, this did not work in my case)

Username: your user
Pass: your password

Now, here is the tricky part: in DW there is also a ?local info? You need to
put there the following information:

http://yoursite.com.previewdsn.com

This is Your Preview DNS URL, the temporary URL address that GD assigns for
your site until you redirect your domain registrar. Note that there is no www.
Initially I tried http://www.mysite.com, www.mysite.com, and many other
combinations. However, once I changed the local info to the above one, DW was
connected. [Note that, once your domain registrar points to GD?s server, you
need to revise your connection with http://yoursite.com, i.e. you change the
local info. Here also there is no www, I have not tried this part yet.]

Wishing that this info helps a fellow human?

Tom
