Default newbie-ftp connection wont work - 05-21-2004 , 03:06 AM

Im currently working my way thru my trial version of dreamweaver.

Im having no end of problems connecting to my server, which I have established
is up and running perfectly. When I enter my ftp host address
[ftp.philiprosewarne.com] and then the host directory path
[philiprosewarne.com/public_html], the program is unable to connect to the
remote server ,saying its not responding, or there is a permission problem. Im
certain the ftp address is correct, and have tried various combinations of the
above in the Host Directory text box, but nothing works.

In frustration I downloaded aceftp3.5 freeware, and was immediately successful
in uploading my trial page to my remote site with the above definitions! The
problem is that I want to be able to do this using Dreameaver [given that it
offers me more safety choices when uploading to the remote site], and not
aceftp3.5!

Q[1]. Is it possible to upload a trial page to my remote site using DW when
its a trial version only?
Q[2]. Will this issue be alleviated when I buy the software at the end of my
trial period?
Q[3]. What am I doing wrong?

I dont use the inbuilt feature which ships with Dreamweaver but the one
time I did I had a similar problem.

Making sure the 'passive ftp' box was ticked, under 'remote info' solved
the problem. I have no idea if this may be the cause of your problem but
you could try it.

For the record. I have been using DW for all my FTPing for my websites since
about mid-2001. (Still connecting ....... sorry, bad joke). First DW4, then
MX2004, both trial & paid-for versions.

I registered a new domain & bought some hosting space a couple of days ago,
and I am having all sorts of problems! I finally got the upload to work - it
was a problem with user/password at their end, not Dreamweaver. Now I am
trying to get the site to be visible, instead of the hosting service's default
page. I am confident that once their end is sorted out, I will be able to
continue to use DW very easily.

And I did all the variations I could think of, before raising the tickets with
their help desk. So, the problem may not be at your end.
