nesting layers problem

You are operating in Layout mode. This is not only bad for your health, but
also bad for your page's code. Don't use Layout mode at all....

I'm in 'code & design' (standard?). I thought layout view was something else

entirely? I found that ctrl+drag worked whereas other instructions don't but
I'd already posted my plea. I made a page using your earlier, most
thoughtfully posted, script. There is even the possibility that I'm getting
the hang of it. Heaven help us!

VIEW | Table Mode will tell you where you are. In Layout mode, the "prevent
layer overlaps" is enabled by decree. What you are describing is exactly
what you would get in that dysfunctional configuration 8).
