I don't question the value/need of this capability. I routinely copy and
paste text into MS Word to count characters/words. But wanting a capability
and assuming it SHOULD exist are quite different. As long as the OP sees DW
as a text editor he will have unrealistic expectations. To quote Bryan &
Jeffrey Eisenberg it's like "Waiting for your cat to bark". ;-)
I agree with you Walt

If DW had all the features that all the users expected to be there it
would be horrible and bloated and slow and impossible to use. Thats why
we have extensions, so individuals can extend it to meet there needs.

Lol one quick google search found this:
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/s_lib/12 it looks like it could be made
into an extension. Anyone up for a challenge?

Plus, most of what I've read over the years re:SEO suggests a maximum number
of characters for both Title and (meta) Description. No it doesn't hurt to
go over the supposed limit but if many (most) SEs ignore the extra
characters it seems prudent to be sure your keywords are in the first X
characters. So counting as you go seems wise.

"counting text"? You mean count words? Or characters? Why do you need
to
do that?

Well in the printing publishing world - the contract can stipulate an
approx no of words.
Maybe some web site contracts do something similar - :-))
