Default Need Help / Assistance - 03-24-2009 , 02:54 PM

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this game and looking for a little help. The thing is, im just
about to begin constructing my own website but there are so many programs out
there i dont know what one to get, any info or additional comments that could
help me on my way would be greatly apprecated.

Thank you Mark from Scotland.

Mark from Scotland - if you don't know, and aren't willing to learn some
HTML and CSS, then DW is likely not the best choice for you. And in fact,
doing your own website may be a great learning experience, but will most
likely result in a website that looks like it was someone's first website!
Or is that OK?

I would start out with a free one. Scroll past the sponsored links here:

http://download.cnet.com/windows/web-site-tools/

Avoid anything that claims you can "drag and drop" stuff to build your
site (that means they are using bad coding practices to help you build
your site). Then get a decent book; most folks here recommend the one
by Elizabeth Castro from Peachpit press, but for the basics you can use
an older or library book.

Just don't go so far back you are using font tags instead of CSS to add
colors, weight, font choices, etc.

Once you have the hang of it you can look to see whether it's worthwhile
for you to invest in a professional software program.
