My background colors won't print, but others do

I have background color on my .html page (which has not been uploaded to a
server yet) and the color shows up when I preview the page in a browser (IE or
Netscape), but when I try to print the webpage from the "preview in browser"
mode, none of the background colors show up. I saw from previous posts about
setting up the option to print in IE (or other), but the background colors of
other actual online websites prints just fine.
Any ideas? Thanks!!

printing background colors and images is a brower specific issue.
Firefox gives you the option of printing backgrounds, IE doesn't (at
least that I could find). If you really care how your site prints,
design it to print well w/o backgrounds. Most printing is for the
content, not the design. As long as the content prints well, who cares.
Web sites are best viewed online, not on paper.

I have used CSS layers to setup a navigation bar, similar to the one at
http://www.pescpe.com. When I am online at their website, I can print the home
page, and all the colors on their navigation bars are printed out.

That's because it's not a background image. It's a single image with
hotspots not an interactive navigation element.

The background on the nav bar didn't print for me. I'm using IE6 on
WinXP Pro. Perhaps it is a OS issue or browser issue? I've never had
luck getting backgrounds to print. I've had clients who wanted a print
out for review, in that case I grab a screen shot and print that
instead.

I don't think there is a way to guarantee backgrounds always print.
