moving tables; sending objects back,forward

i took it for granted that with DW you could move objects,tables etc.
i imported a background frm another program onto which i wanted to add a table
and other content.i created a simple table which i wanted to move so i could
position it properly where i wanted 'on top' of my background.however, i
realised that the handles were only for increasing or decreasing size and that
i couldnt bring the objects (table) forward or send back (even when using
'Modify')
is there actually a way of moving a table and bringing it to the front?
