Default Move all DW Sites to a new drive/folder - 08-05-2004 , 03:47 PM

I need to move 25+ Dreamweaver MX 2004 sites to a new drive and directory
(folder).

Is there a way to move the whole group (they all reside in one "sites" folder)
and then point DW to the new location? So far, all I can see is using "Manage
Sites" to change the local root folder for each site individually.

Is there a better way?

AFAIK, you need to re-deifne them one by one.

If it's a macintosh, you could open the Prefs file in a text editor and do a
careful find and replace (make a backup copy before touching it)

for 25 sites, just grind through the Edit Sites list.

need to change the Local folder, and the Site Map-->"homepage" location.

on windows, it would have to be done by editing the registry, if there is
any find/replace tool for that. But i wouldn't bother trying it- it's bound
to "find" some instance of the drivename/path that you don't want changed,
such as the location of fireworks, or some other thing. Too risky compared
to repeating the same action 50 times.

To reconfigure 25+ sites? Sheesh - I wouldn't think twice about it....

You could also use one of the tools to export the sites, then do a Find
& Replace in the exported file.

Thanks again Alan, and for your input Murray.

I did "grind through them" as you suggested, and also updated the link for the
default images folder ( on those sites that had a default ). I was just
searching for an "easy" way for the next time when I have 200 sites to
relocate. Oh well, at least the process wasn't painful.

Best regards,
Art
