Default Missing images - no reason - 11-05-2004 , 11:46 PM

I have a strange thing: all my images are linked properly and were showing up
fine. I looked at the site a few days later and some images are missing but
there are no broken link symbols, the images/files etc. are all on the server
and the problem is random. Example: there was a banner across the top of a page
one day, I did nothing to the site but the next day the banner was gone. It is
still listed in the files and still linked. Other images from the same
list/file are not affected and they show up. So I check the page in Dreamweaver
and upload the page and all linked files again - overwriting them in FTP, but
still no banner and no broken link symbol. There is no problem with the server
(apparently) and I can see no reason why this should happen. Anyone have any
ideas? The two sites on which this happens are subject to .htaccess files via
iBill but the problem is not one of protected area links - it happens in public
and restricted areas and the files are linked within their own areas! LukeP

What is your AntiVirus?

If it's Norton, disable it and try to browse to the page again.

What about renaming the banner image so possibly it wont be blocked because
of its name?

Neither made no difference (excuse my bad English!) I have since found out that
my images are there - I can see them on other people's PCs but not on mine. It
seems that the problem started when I downloaded Microsoft Service Pack 2 for
Windows XP - which also caused several other problems, now corrected. (But not
these three or four missing images - that's still a mystery.) So be warned
about Service Pack 2! It's not a Dreamweaver issue after all. Thanks for all
your help folks.

If you have related the problem to SP2, then it's a simple matter to fix.
Just disable the SP2 Firewall.

Hi Murray
Where do I find the SP2 firewall controls to see if it is causing another problem I have?
I unistalled SP2 but think it may have left some things 'hanging about'.

I wouldn't know how to advise you in your current configuration. But with
SP2 installed you would just go to the Security Center Control Panel applet.
