Members Area

Hi
I need to create a members area on my site. I understand that I need to create
a database with the members details etc and need to find out if my ISP supports
the use of databases and they do. What I would like some help with is how do I
create all the necessary bits and what bits I need. The fields that I need are
simply name/address (for any purchases) favourite item etc.

I am currently doing a few upgrades to my site after amny recommendations were
made a while ago and want to make a start on putting in place the members area.

I am a novice but really want to push the boat out into new territory. I am
ultimately looking at creating an area where members can access valuations and
to buy items.
