What about installing Studio MX 2004 on just one machine and installing
Dreamweaver 4 / Fireworks 4 on another computer? I'm thinking that since I
upgraded, instead of installing the new suite on two computers, I'll
install it on one and put Dreamweaver 4 on the computer in the other
bedroom for my friend.

Well, technically, the point of installing Studio (or portions of Studio) on
two machines isn't to give two users access to the same suite of applications.
Both installations should be used by the same user. An acceptable scenario
would be to install Studio on a desktop and a laptop with both machines owned
and used by a single user, or licensee.

Make sense?

Christian

The MX04 EULA allows you to load it on two machines as long as they are both
not used at the same time, such as the laptop & desktop situation as you
described.

Given that you are allowed to do this I do not see the point of installing
the older version.

Okay. I might install Front Page Express for him or something. :-)

No you can NOT.

Snipped:
------------
-) Office 97 suites and Office 2000 suites are the only valid upgrade
products for the Office XP suites. You cannot use the Academic Edition of
Office 97 or Office 2000 as a qualifying product.

-) Office 97 stand-alone products and Office 2000 stand-alone products are
valid upgrade products for the Office XP stand-alone products.*

-) Office 97 suites and Office 2000 suites are valid upgrade products for
the Office XP stand-alone products only if the Office XP stand-alone product
is included in the corresponding Office 97 suite or Office 2000 suite*.
------------

Details:
http://snipurl.com/8abk

The list of products that qualify for upgrading to Office 2003 are
CONSIDERABLY less constrained and include such low-cost product such as
Works 2000,
Works 8.0,
Works 7.0,
Works 6.0

Make no mistake, this is not being done for any altruistic reasons. This is
being done to get as many people to switch over to MS Office as possible,
even users of other products that had Works bundles with PCs they purchased.
I am not saying this as a way to indulge in any MS-bashing.

This is was a very subtle, shrewd, and business-savvy move on MS's part. You
have to view the upgrade policies for the last 3 or 4 Office Suites to fully
appreciate exactly how true that is.

They are doing the same thing on the developer front with their upcoming
line of "Express" line of development tools.

Cheers,
Sam

without paying nearly $1,000 for a full version as opposed to just over
$500
for the upgrade.
