Default Losing Site Definitions in DW 8?? - 11-09-2005 , 05:14 PM

This is a strange one. Here at work, they are rolling out an updated image
for our workstations (windows XP with SP2). As it turns out, things are
locked down a bit more and we can't just install any old software anymore
and there is another side effect, while using DreamWeaver MX 8, after
setting up a site, all the site data is gone the next time you log into your
workstation.

I suspect that someplace that Dreamweaver writes its data to, I don't have
proper access. I've been given full control over the documents and settings
folder where DW has its configuration folder, but not the registry. Is that
the missing piece? Do I need write access to the macromedia branch of the
registry? Thanks for any help!

....Brad

Go give your IT people a dope slap and explain to them how this policy
affects your ability to work. The site defs are written to the Registry.
About the only thing you can do is to export the defs every day and reimport
them the next morning.

Easier said than done... Ever worked with a corporate IT group? See if you
ever get anything ever again after you attempt a dope slap ;-)

My first thought is to see if your IT group will allow you local
administrative rights to your workstation.

I'm trying to think of what in the Group Policy Editor would restrict an
application from writing to the registry. It doesn't seem like a normal
event. Was Dreamweaver installed by the "Administrator" account, or a
normal user account? I've seen programs act wierdly when installed by the
"Administrator" account. One person last month on this forum reported odd
behavior on WinXP when installed using the "Administrator" login.

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks guys,
In this particular case, I think they are open to making changes we need to
do our job. In my case, I always keep a spare ghost image of my
workstation, "just the way I need it" just in case. ;-) Thanks again.

Make sure that your configuration file is not hidden.
