Login Page...Need Help

I am using dreamweaver MX to build a website for my personal use. I need to be able to set up a login page, with username and password fields. I would also like the other pages in the "secure" section of the site to not be able to be accessed without logging in. I have microsoft access for creating the database and was able to connect to the database with dreamweaver. I tried making a ASP page and adding a user authentication\login user server side script, but when I try to go to the page in IE, it brings up a prompt to download a temporary asp file and does nothing.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a better document type to do this in other than ASP javascript and I could use some step by step instructions.
