Default Locking styles with a DreamWeaver template - 11-18-2004 , 07:30 AM

I'm currently trying to put together an XHTML/CSS template in DreamWeaver. I
want to give the editors a number of editable areas, but have them restricted
to using a specified CSS when formatting the text within these areas - and not
create their own/use unspecified html tags. Does anyone know if this is
possible?
I'm aware it's possible in Contribute, but Contribute doesn't provide what I
want in other areas (Design Time Style Sheets, preventing display of included
files).

Why XHTML?

Say more about what you want in these areas, please.

I know of no way to prevent someone from adding styles to a page.

XHTML - because that was the specification laid down to me,

Contribute doesn't (I believe) enable me to prevent the display of included
files within the page - something that DreamWeaver does. Nor does it (again I
believe) enable use of Design Time Style Sheets. One of which I'll need if I'm
to get around a problem rendering a menu. Dreamweaver enables me to do these,
but not apparently the locking of style tags to those I specify - something
Contribute does offer.

I'm trying to pick a package that will give me what I need, but compromise
looks like it's needed...

Ahh - did you advise and caution the source of that as to the difficulties
that might be encountered as a result, or did you propose
transitional/strict HTML 4.01 as an alternative?

You can create your template to put the include statements into Optional
regions. The contribute user can then display, or not display them as
desired. Why do you not want them displayed? Is it a convenience thing?

You can also create your template to use a template
region/parameter/expression combination to link in a 'pseudo-design-time'
stylesheet. This would allow you to do nearly anything you wanted to the
display of the page in Contribute.

Thanks for your tips.

XHTML is a benefit in this case (perhaps not in DreamWeaver) to the institution, as they may want to harvest the content...

In that case you should use it.

DW is XHTML agnostic.
