Local files are automatically copied to remote view

I use Dreamweaver 6.0
I have a local site set up on my machine to edit and test the website.
My goal is, when I am done testing it, I will put the files on the
remote site (the production web site). However, when I make changes
to the page in the local view and save it. I am getting the changes
saved to the remote view also.
Here is a breakdown of the process I am using:

In the [Files] pane, I am on the [Sites] tab.
I have 2 drop-down list-boxes. The one on the left is my site name,
the one on the right is the current view.
I choose [Local View].
Open the file I want to edit.
Make some changes and save the file.
Then I change the list-box on the right to say [Remote view]
Open the file, and it already has my changes.

What do I need to do different to be able to test the changes and then
choose when to put the files in the remote site.

The local site, and remote site are not set up the same.
