linking to a url outside website

i have put up a basic website that has a few links to other webpages, nothing
fancy. but i'd like to have a link to amazon.com, and in the near future to a
particular page on amazon. in the link area i typed www.amazon.com, but the
program wants to look for that inside my site, which of course it isn't. thanks
in advance for any help.
