Default Linking and site root problem - 07-08-2004 , 02:10 PM

I am working on

www.crownbattery.com

and since its an international company I am working on making 3 different
versions of the site (English, French, Spanish).

Currently all the links are relative to the site root which makes it easy when
I move files around and copy and past certain parts of pages to other pages in
other folders.

I created the seperate folders on the root level (EN/ FR/ SP/) all relative to
the different language.

The problem comes when I move the English version which has all the links
relative to the site root to the (EN) folder, all the links don't work b/c they
are still relative to the site root and Dreamweaver doesn't change the address
to account for the (EN) folder.

Is there an easy way to do this without going through every link and adding EN
before every link. I thought Dreamweaver would take care of all the links if I
moved it in Dreamweaver but apparently it didn't.

It would be a labourus task to go in and edit the entire site since none of
the links work and I have alot of graphics on the website.

Please Help

Thanks Nick

Open the file you wish to move.
Select "File", "Save as"

and it will offer to update links for you

When I moved the entire site in the EN folder in dreamweaver it did ask me to update the files and I clicked (Update) but it didn't update the links.

How did you move the files via dreamweaver or drag and drop?

In the side bar, I draged and dropped all the folders which were in the root folder into the EN folder and Dreamweaver then asked me if I wanted to update them and I clicked yes(update).

This will update all the links it can find. If you are using any
all-javascript menus, it will NOT update those links. This is another
reason why I recommend not to use those menus.

That would make since for most of the links, especally the images used in the
navbars, but like the banner images aren't being update and niether are the
links at the bottom of the page which are regular text links. I don't think it
work for any links.

Could it be b/c I moved all the folders at the same time?

Thats not true murray with a good javascript menu all you have to do is update the 1 javascript file and it updates EVERY page.

That is probably were I went wrong, I just highlighted all the folders and
draged and dropped them.

I will go in and try draging and dropping every html file.

The image files shouldn't matter, or would they?
