Default layers and z-index. - 06-15-2004 , 01:39 PM

Hi,

I have two layers. Layer one contains a image whereas layer two contains a
flash file.

layer one is on the left of the page and layer 2 is on the right of the
page. When you make the page smaller horizontally I want layer two to go
underneath layer one. I adjusted the z-index to make this work, however as
long as the flash file is there it refuses to work. I've tried taking the
flash file out and changing bg colour and it works exactly right.

What else do I need to do to make it work correctly ?

Thanks,

Andy.

All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+ (Windows only), then you can
use the Flash
wmode parameter. It doesn't work in all browsers (NN4) or platforms (Windows
only) but it's implemented in the latest netscapes:

It does work in Mac OS X, actually -- at least, from a recent "why not,
try it" experiment (see my post "wmode=transperent works on Mac" earlier
today).

Is there a solution for situations that don't involve Flash? For example, a flyout menu displays over a drop-down menu but it displays behind it instead of in front of it.

I have just posted about a problem with getting hotspots to work in the browser
over the top of a Flash animation. Maybe this is the same problem? I'm in the
UK and it's getting late but I will try this tomorrow and post again if it
works.

Regards,

Tim

There is an extension on the PVII site (http://www.projectseven.com/) that
will hide that form element when the flyout is displayed (assuming you have
used a rational flyout approach! 8)

Otherwise, you will have to redesign your page....
