Default layers and png - 11-04-2004 , 12:44 PM

hi everyone, newbie on mx2004 just upgraded from 6 . My problem is that i am
trying to preserve a transparency in a layer . It occurs in a png image and
looks great in the design window but when i hit f12 the browser seems to add
its own solid background to the image not the layer. I have a sneaky suspition
that what i am trying to achieve cannot be done but I would love to be wrong on
this occasion. thanks guys

IE doesn't do PNG transparency.

Did you export this image from FW? Or did you just save it?

Natively, no...but you can get it to work in certain instances with some
javascript hacks. Far from ideal. Rarely the best option, but doable in a
pinch sometimes.

Sometimes, certain instances, maybe, often, and usually are give-away words
that should alert you to the soundness of this plan.... 8)

Who cares?

Recent browsers handle PNG very well. For IE you could use conditional
comments to include a JS-workaround, other browsers won't recognize it.

Another way would be to let the server decide automatically which file
to deliver: the real PNG or a "fallback-GIF/JPEG". On Apache servers
this can be done with content negotiation, which decides according to
the various Accept-headers sent by the browser.

I use PNG regardless of IE's (in)capabilities, the advantages of the
format outweigh one broken browser. If necessary I add a fix.
