Default Just So Picture Window - Firefox 1.0 alt tags - 11-17-2004 , 07:55 PM

URL: http://www.raydeanart.com

Alt tags in IE work correctly.
For the thumbnails, Firefox 1.0 alt tags show the sitewide option of the
Window Title as the alt tag, instead of the specific alt tag I want for each
image. For the enlargements, Firefox shows no alt tag at all.

have I done something wrong? or is the new version of Firefox doing
something funny?

You need to use the title attribute in your image tag
<img src="pic1.gif" alt="alt tag" title="title tag">

No it's not FF V1. I am using an earlier version of FF and see what you are
saying. FFox is showing the title tag rather than the alt tag

<div align="center"><a href="javascript:;" title="Raymond Dean - Artworks"

My suggestion if you want to keep the title tag is to change it to what you
have for the alt tag.

Actually, alt tags (the alt attribute, to be correct) works *incorrectly* in
IE. Alt attributes are there to be displayed on the page if the image
doesn't get displayed -- as a replacement, or alternative, for the image.
The alt attribute was never meant to be a popup "tooltip."

Firefox correctly does not pop up alt attributes as a tooltip.

Firefox correctly pops up the title attribute as a tooltip.

Exploder *incorrectly* pops up the alt attribute as a tooltip.

Firefox is doing things exactly right. It's Exploder, as usual, that is the
problem child.

I find it amusing. Someone writes bad, malformed code that doesn't work in
Firefox, the most standards-compliant browser available, and blames it on
the browser. And then rants about it publicly, thereby revealing his
ineptitude as a web author.
