Default jpegs broken - 08-06-2004 , 05:43 AM

Why, when I insert a jpeg into a page in DWMX 2004, does the broken image icon appear instead? The link is not broken, because I've just clicked the Insert Image button and navigated to it. I have to close and reopen the page for the picture to appear and it's getting very irritating.

Is this a bug?

No, not a bug.
In that dialog window you use when navigating to the image, you need to
select "document relative path" with the little drop down menu at the
bottom of the same window. Keep that way - always.

It is always set to document relative pathing!

(I should probably add that I'm using a Win2K workstation on a Novell network.)

Little,

I've never worked in such environment, so I'm not the one to reply, then.
But in some way the site isn't defined according to the circumstances.

Can you do this:

Manually edit an erroneous image path until you can make the image show
up (hopefully, you can)
Then show us that path, plus how it looked from the start.

BTW: You say that the image is broken in DW. Don't you mean when
previewing or something?

There's nothing wrong with the path that it inserts. The image appears when I preview the page via F12, so I know the path is correct. Manually editing the box makes no difference.

It's only when I'm in Design view that I get the broken image icon. There's no dimensions for the picture and the code that is inserted is just <img src="images/familyroom.jpg">.

I've uploaded a screen grab of the design view so you can see what I mean.

Show me the image please. This may indicate a bad image file. I am sure it
has nothing to do with your pathing. Also, is the image OUTSIDE the current
site (or even external to the computer)?

All the images are contained in the images folder within the current site folder. That particular image in my example screen grab is at www.modburyinn.co.uk/images/familyroom.jpg

It was an imaged that I scanned in from a photo, and resized in Photoshop and saved as a web image in photoshop.

This never happens with .gifs. Just jpegs.

I'm thinking that maybe it's photoshop's save for web that's screwing things up with an image... I've saved the same image but with different filenames, with Save As... and then Save for Web... the Save as image appeared ok, the Save for Web didn't.

I'll try it a few more times to see if this is consistant...

No that's not quite it. I've just created some pictures with Save As and Save for Web.
I opened a new page and they all appeared on the page fine - but I hadn't saved this page at all.

I created another blank new page, saved it as an .htm file, then inserted the same pictures and none of them appeared.

That's weird behaviour!!

The pictures vary, but the one's I've been working with today are about 300 x 230px.
Again the file names vary, but an example is familyroom.jpg
It is an RGB image.
