the italics/<em> keyboard shortcut [cmd+i] does not work in Design View but it

In Code View, it will insert <em></em> if you do not have anything
selected, but Design View ignores this case.

Is that what you are seeing? Make sure that you have some text selected.

HTH,
Randy

That shortcut should surround selected text with either <em> or <i> tags
depending on your selection in prefs. EDIT --> Prefs --> General.

If you have no text selected nothing is inserted into the code from
design view when you hit the shortcut, if you have nothing selected and
hit the shortcut then DW will add the tags when you start to type.

If you use the shortcut in code view then an empty tag pair is inserted
ready for you to code.

Cheers jojo
