Internet Explorer 8 FadeIn/Fade Out issues -

I am curious about how people are dealing with the upcoming release of IE8.
My understanding is that they are changing the way they deal with opacity
(after at first deciding to drop it altogether), which would require updating
scripts and/or stylesheets on existing sites that use opacity to render images,
or even the translucent backgrounds that have become prevalent. BTW, this
affects any DHTML scripts that do FadeIn/FadeOut. I expect that most will not
work with IE8 without a code change or without adding the following meta tag:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7">
They've changed the CSS rule from the non standard "filter" CSS property to
the non-standard "-ms-filter" CSS property.
I notice that in DW CS4, the filter property is present, but not the
-ms-filter property in the extensions section of the CSS dialog.
Anyway, I am wondering why I haven't heard more hubbub about this. If you are
using FadeIn/FadeOut scripts, are you
1. Updating your sites to support IE8
2. Updating your sites to apply the META tag so that it runs in IE7?
3. Ignoring the problem and hoping it (or MS) will go away?
Or am I worried about nothing? |
