Default internal cgi cearch engines - 07-07-2004 , 05:26 AM

Hi,

I am looking for a very simple internal search engine to search a website
which has all it's docs stored in a doc folder.

I am also looking for a more advanced search engine which searches by
keywords, document type and date.

any ideas?

thanks in anticipation

It depends on which script language you prefer. There are several to
chose from. Go to e.g. www.hotscripts.com and take a look.
You can also use the free one from www.atomz.com. But it requires you to
have their logo there, etc...

Thanks again ZhongQiang,

but the scripts here look to be used to search the www, which I have covered
by using the google engine, but I am looking for a script which will search a
local server with no www address.

I found one on Matts script archive but it looks a bit complicated for users,
I am looking for one which is the same as the google search ie - enter keywords
- hit search button. and a second one which allows the user to narrow things
down by entering some other criteria (eg date)

htdig
http://www.htdig.org/

others
http://www.agentland.com/Download/Webmastering_Agents/Indexing/index.html

http://www.hotscripts.com/CGI_and_Perl/Scripts_and_Programs/Searching/Site_S
earch/index.html

Perl scripts aren't often an easy thing to install, especially one that's
going to read and index documents for searching.

Hi tammacbam,
you might wana try Entropy Search, its a CGI search engine which comes with
all cpanel account. guess its rather reliable. However, I would recommend the
use of PHP. The one which is am using could be found at
http://www.cj-design.com/index.php?content=downloads&page=7. Its easy to use,
however, having not so comprehensive searches. Users would have to manually
enter search entries. I do strongly recommend you this script if you are a
beginer as other more complexed scripts are really good but hard to use.
http://www.phpdig.net and http://www.mnogosearch.org/ would be good example of
complex scripts which would resemble google's. However, you would have to spend
a few sleepless nights figuring out how to install it and get it running.
