MX or MX2004?

Have you opened a trouble ticket with Macromedia?

You bought it used?

I'm just curious how it is you are installing the previous version.

I have the same problem. I purchased, downloaded and installed Studio MX a
couple of years ago, and everything worked fine, that was under Windows 2000
Professional. But then one day my Windows installation was corrupted by bad
printer drivers (oh Brother!) and I decided instead to install Windows XP
Professional, which I did, but into a different partition. So I had to
reinstall all my software too. I have today tried to reinstall the Studio MX
software, including Dreamweaver 6.1, but it only gets as far as the splash
screen and no further when I try to run it. I read on the site to try the
Dreamweaver 6.1 Updater, which I downloaded and installed, but that did not
help.

The other programs in Studio MX all work fine, it is only Dreamweaver that
crashes.

Also note that my Windows XP Professional has SP1a installed, not SP2.

So how can this be fixed? Anyone?

You can try this simple fix -

Quit DW.

Find this folder -

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
MX 2004\Configuration

and rename it (say xConfiguration).

Restart DW. Works better?

I don't have such a folder at all. I am using Dreamweaver MX, and there is no
folder for it, only folders for the other Macromedia products. So I tried
copying the Dreamweaver MX from a previous installation in Windows 2000, but
that did not work. Then I did as you suggested and renamed it xConfiguration
and that made no difference either. I am not sure why there was no
configuration folder there to start with, there was one earlier when I
installed Dreamweaver earlier. But I have uninstalled and reinstalled several
times without success so far.

You wouldn't have such a folder if you had never created a site with DMX.
Which DMX is it - 6.0 or 6.1?

Then I think you should still exercise your complementary one-on-one support
(unless you have already used both or used one more than 90 days ago).

Contact Macromedia directly and use one of your one-on-one support
incidents.
