Default Install Can't find setup.exe - 11-22-2003 , 09:49 PM

Please Help!! I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 and all updates are current. My computer is a Pentium 4, 512 MB of Ram, with 131 GB free. I received Macromedia Web Design Studio (Dreamweaver 3, Fireworks 3 and Flash 4) as a gift some time ago but had no need for it then. I really need it now and attempted to install it yesterday. I followed the steps: 1. Start 2. Run 3. E:/setup.exe. My system came back with: [Windows cannot find E:\setup.exe. Make sure name is typed correctly and try again or search for file.] I have tried everything again, I have searched the Dreamweaver/Fireworks CD and cannot find a setup.exe file. What do I do - ? cody

What IS on the disk?
What do you see on the disk's directory?

and... What color is the disk, and what's the numbers printed on it down
below?

!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!
please don't post your serial number which is on the paper slipcover, I'm
talking about a number printed right on the CD itself, that will have MAC
or WIN as part of the series of numbers and letters

Craig VanDerSchaegen writes:

Are you sure that E is letter name of your cd drive? Could be that you
should type D:\setup.exe. Otherwise, put the cd in and browse it with
Windows Explorer to see if you can find setup.exe and just double-click it
to install.

If all else fails, you may want to contact Macromedia for replacement media.

Thank you, will have to contact Macromedia because E is the proper drive, and it is acknowledging that Studio is there just not the setup file. Thanks especially for the link. Cody

Hi Alan,

The Box states in several places that it is for Windows 95, 98, or Windows NT with service pack 3 or later. I was told that would still install on XP. The disk is a purple and the number imprinted on the disk (not my serial number) is ZWBW130ACD. It also states it is for Windows 95, 98 and NT. When I read the disk it shows the following folders:
Browsers, Dreamweaver 3, Other Macromedia Software and Templates. Under browsers it shows folders Communicator 4.7 and Internet Explorer 5.0. (I have internet 6.0) Under the Dreamweaver folder is Extending Dreamweaver folder, Homesite 4.5 folder, More Extentions, and 3 files titled - Dreamweaver 3 Installer, License and a Read Me file. The read me file does not give any installation info. There are other levels of folders but I did not go into them.
Cody

Okay- my guess on limited info was wrong-

Did you try clicking on the Dreamweaver 3 Installer file?

If i remember, that's a shockwave or flash file that starts the
installation.

Alan, Thank you for the info on Installer. I thought about trying clicking on the Installer file, but frankly was a little too timid. When things don't follow the step by step procedure as they should, I get nervous and timid. Will go try that now and let you know. Cody
