Default Image there but not previewing in local Apache - 07-08-2004 , 10:54 PM

Hi All,

The strangest thing is happening.

I have set up Apache2 locally (standalone machine) with PHP4.

I am playing around with a php page in DWMX (6.1).

F12 prieview the page apart from the fact a graphic which is definitely
there, is showing as missing.

I REALLY don't understand this.

The site path is http://localhost/sitename/ and the image is physically
at http://localhost/sitename/Assets/Images/title.gif with the graphic
being relative to document in DWMX.

It is there - I can see it in Paint Shop Pro. If I enter the full image
path in IE6, it shows as broken.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Neil

What does http://localhost/sitename/Assets/Images/ show? What OS is the
server running on? Is Apache able to read the directory (check the user
permissions)? Are the directoryname/filename spelled correctly (may be
case-sensitive depending on the underlying OS)?

It shows a directory tree containing the said gif. Clicking on the gif
produces a broken gif.

I'm running it on XP Pro.

All spelling is correct.

I think that your problem is the following:

When you create a site with php, mysql, etc etc....
you need to place those files inside of htdocs folder that is in Apache
address. (program files, apache group, apache, htdocs)...
So that will be the relative path to your site...and also youll do the same
with you image folder.
and the testing server http://localhost or http://localhost/yoursite

Hmm, do you have other browsers available? Mozilla for example? Would be
interesting to know, if the server delivers the file with the correct
content-type (should be image/gif in this case), Mozilla is able to show
that info (ctrl-i).

What happens if you put a small text-file or a jpeg-file into that
directory, are you able to open it in the browser (just to be sure that
Apache is able to read files from that directory)?
