Default Image Swap problems - 09-01-2005 , 05:34 PM

I've set up a group of thumbnail images which onClick change a central image in
the main area of the page (a photo gallery). I've selected to preload images
and I'm also using another behavior - "change property" to alter the caption
placed under each photo in the gallery.

This code is working perfectly on my Mac in several browsers and in Virtual PC
with IE.

Here's where it gets weird. I've asked several friend to check the page out on
their PCs and feedback has been very varied. IE on the PC seems to be having
trouble with this code generated by DW - sometimes! When it doesn't work, the
central photo never loads and clicking on the thumbnails does nothing. But I
have seen it work fine on some PCs with IE. On Firefox (PC) it works fine.

So, why this is working erractically across PCs with IE I have NO idea, but
I'm hoping someone in this forum might. I'm almost ready to ditch this
javascript approach and build this littel gallery using iFrames, which I've
done in the past. Would love to get this to work as it is now though.

Here's the testing site:

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Pretty !

Can one produce a page without a <body> tag?

Had this problem only yesterday using the Set Text of Layer to swap images.
Posted in PVII forum pviiwebdev with a title GeeWiz gallery not working in
IE. Solved it eventually

Try changing your null links from javascript:; to #. Mine worked fine after
that.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the compliment Kenneth - and for pointing out the missing <body>
tag. Weird! Not sure how I missed that, but the page still seems to work fine
without it.

Hywel, thanks for the tip. I'm trying it now and just waiting for a friend who
couldn't use the gallery before to tell me if it's working ok. I couldn't get
the problem to happen on my machine, so I can't test here ;-). I didn't realize
that not using javascript:; was an option in the tag. I'm curious! Regarding
your problem with "set layer text". Is that a different approach to a similar
thing that I'm doing? Mine changes text with "change property". I'd like to
know the best (and most stable) way to implement this little gallery on my site.

Thanks for pitching in. I'll post again after I get the test results back....

Yes I thought null links should be javascript:; rather than # but whenever I
used javascript:; IE would give me problems with images not showing up. I
also started by using MM_change property behaviour to swap the background
image of a layer and when I had the problem of images not showing in IE i
suspected the behaviour to be the problem. I then changed to Set Text of
Layer and still got the problem which was when I posted in the PVII ng.

The only reason I didn't use the SwapImage behaviour was that it likes
images to be the same size and if they are not it expands the swap image to
the dimensions of the original. In my case that wouldn't work without
packing out all my images which from a workfow point of view was going to be
difficult. With the Set Text of Layer you can swap the entire contents of a
layer not just the image.

Best regards

Hywel, I just wanted to say thanks. Changing javascript;: to # worked like a charm and I'm all set now. Thanks again!

Best,
Scott
