Default image maps & show/hide layers - 11-10-2004 , 09:25 PM

Hello-

Is there a way to use an image map to show/hide layers? Its greyed out as an option on behaviors and I understand why, but I didnt know if there was another way to do that.

Thanks!

I don't really understand why the behavior would be grayed out. You want to
1. select the image map itself. 2. select the SHOW HIDE behavior, 3. then make
sure it is associated with the action ONMOUSEOVER (or ONCLICK or whatever you
want. VERY IMPORTANT Let's assume you have selected ONMOUSEOVER to SHOW a
layer above the image map you have attached the behavior with ONMOUSEOVER to.
You will then have a layer turned on that is above the original image map. If
you want to use ONMOUSEOUT to turn off that layer you turned on then there must
be another image map on the higher layer with the SHOW HIDE action attched to
ONMOUSEOUT associated with the higher image map. With the upper layer turned
on the lower layer will no longer be useful for behaviors until the upper layer
is turned off again. Now a WARNING! I have found that using layers this way
can be a little bit funky. If you move your cursor a little too quickly over
and out of the image map area the upper layer can get 'stuck' on until you move
your cursor over and out of the image map a second time to turn off the upper
layer. As fast as we think our computers are it is still possible to move the
cuyrsor fast enough to not allow the upper layer to get turned on and the upper
image map to register that there was a mouse over it that has moved on. Good
luck, Michael

Make sure you a) have the desired image map selected in Design view, and b)
have a layer on the page.
