what is the fastest way to get your illustrator images optomized, sized and

open them in some other graphics application.
Mostly serious- there are a fair number of problems posted here by people
using Illustrator who have odd borders on their images, poor compression,
etc.
It's mainly a vector graphics app for print. I don't know what
controls/options are built into it that would make it easy to make web
optimized graphics.
most graphics apps now have batch features, or "actions" or "commands" that
will remember a set of steps. Example- i do lots of repeated stuff for one
site. 30 or so new images a week. Bring the images to one standard size,
then make a smaller thumbnail. I've created a command in fireworks that does
it quickly.
