Default IE6/7 position bug - 01-02-2009 , 10:33 AM

In IE6/7 I have three header elements as well as a navigation div that are
positioning relative to the body instead of the container div they are sitting
in. I for the life of me can't figure out where the problem lies as I've
checked to make sure my absolutes are within relative containers. The bug can
be seen at http://www.monderer.com/memento if you view it in IE6/7. This
problem is not present in IE8, Safari or Firefox.

Never mind, I figured out a hack to get around this problem and it now works as
it should. This site is going to be converted over to a CMS early next year so
I'll be able to rebuild some elements then and fix the mess the original
programmer left behind.

how did you fix the problem? i'm having a similar issue. I'm pretty new to css
and divs so not really sure how to go about resolving it. I have three main
divs...header, content and footer and have a couple of divs in the content
section. the problem seems to lie in the three main divs: H,C,F..here's the
error i get:

"Positioned containers define a new stacking order, even when the computed
z-index of the container is auto. This can cause positioned children of the
container to appear above other positioned elements on the page when they
should not.

Affects: Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0
Likelihood: Likely"

Please help if you can. thanks.
