Glad you got it going for now. If you study up on the modern methods,
you'll find maintenance and customization changes of sites much easier
in the future. Changing a single file and uploading it can give a site
an entirely different appearance - much harder to do with a legacy
table-based layout.
Look at the code and see how they do it here, for example:

Notice that the structure of the HTML on the page doesn't change when
clicking on the different looks. Almost magical, but quite logical
instead.

Heck no. I would hate to have to tell browsers to left justify all the
time - the default in all programs I'm aware of.
