I knew they were upgrading their forums, but discontinuing the news servers

WTF? I hate message boards. Gah!

Why does Adobe have to ruin everything it touches? Why do corporations buy
things that threaten them, and then change everything about what made them
a viable threat to begin with?

Macromedia's presence on the news servers is what got me into their
products big time. It's what originally made me switch to Dreamweaver in
the first place, many moons ago.

I'm guessing I'm not the first to mention this. Nor the first Adobe is
going to ignore on the subject.

Damn. :-(
Yeah, me too.

Adobe is just going with the flow, though. Look at how many posts here are
from "webforumuser". Apple and Microsoft are as much to blame as Adobe.
Apple does not provide a default news-capable reader and Microsoft only
provides news-reading capabilities if you are not using Outlook (as opposed
to Outlook Express or Windows Mail). It's a lot of stupidity and a lack of
understanding about nntp as it relates to USENET, which is perceived as a
security threat. While private news servers are not a threat, the younger
crowd or the stupid crowd (Adobe has quite a few of both) simply do not
understand the technology.

Even we may heed the siren's call to web forums sooner or later - though we
will never kill our news server.

My guess is that control over the information has a lot to do with it.

Same here Thierry...

In case Adobe is lurking and just for the record, I am not leaving because I
am disappointed and angry. I am disappointed and angry because I am leaving.
Donating my time, regardless of how some might value it, is costly enough.
Adobe just raised the cost, for me, to an unacceptable level. I'm sure I
will visit the forum sometimes, but more to ask than to answer. Some at
Adobe may see that as selfish, so be it. I see it as self-preservation.

And then there's the bright side. I will probably have enough free time to
build an additional site a month. Hello bottom line! :-)

Final thought, considering the experience and wisdom of those pledging to
leave, the new forum might be a display of the blind leading the blind
leading the lame leading the halt. On second thought it could have some
entertainment value. ;-)

Hasta la vista... maybe! (Paraphrasing our Governor)

It's a newsgroup. You need a newsgroup reader. I use Outlook Express. There
are others. See Google
