Default I am a realtive NEWBIE Need help.. - 09-11-2007 , 07:11 AM






I need to know how to get only the middle content to change.. I am not even
sure what thats called.. basically I have a header/footer and left and right
colum.. I want the navigation on top to change the content in the middle..
Please help if you can..

At this point in your 'career', you don't. You just make flat pages that
link to each other.

For future reference, the only ways to get what you want are -

1. Use frames - there are compelling reasons NOT to do this, however.
2. Use client-side javascript to pull data from a database (or some other
data source like an XML file), and interactively place it on the page.

I think those are your only choices.

Just to expand upon the useful responses from Murray and "Mr. Mustard" -

You really don't *need* frames to do what you're describing. If you design
your site with "flat pages", as Murray says, and do it carefully, clicking
from page to page will have almost exactly the same appearance as it would
if you used frames. It's a little like those animated "flip-books" we used
to have as kids - the parts that don't change look as if they haven't moved
at all.

How to "carefully design" those pages? The easiest for a beginner would
probably be by using a Dreamweaver template. You can read in the Help files
about them - they aren't hard to use, if you keep it simple.
