I am trying to setup a documents website for my office. I have a folder named documents in the site root. It contains .pdf .xls .doc files. Pages from the site link to the documents. I want employees to click a link to a particular file and have it open the necessary program to edit the file instead of it opening in the browser. How can I accomplish this? Thanks, Kirk |

Actually I found something on this. It is a folder options setting. By default explorer is set to open any file extension it knows within the browser. To override this you need to do the following on each system that you want to open the full program. Important Instructions: In order to edit the documents you must change the way your browser opens files. Do the following: Double click my computer - select tools - Folder Options - select file types - highlight doc in the extension list - click advanced at the bottom - uncheck browse in same window. perform the same steps for xls and pdf file extension. You only need to perform this task once. |

Craig understood. But the problem lies here..... Our office has some Excel files that require updating by many individuals who are not to computer savvy. I need everyone to update the same workbook so that there is no need for a data merge later. Also generic changes to Word Docs must remain consistent throughout our branch. So updating a single document in one easily accessible location is much better than me updating the document each time there is a change. I will have to see what effects it may have in a global situation and maybe find another solution. I'm not to good with javascript but knowing the things it can perform maybe something can be written that route. Thanks. |
