Default HTML Template Problems - 11-20-2007 , 11:15 AM

I have this template that I created, saved as a template. I then applied it to
a new webpage, and in dreamweaver, instead of the background being all green,
it was white, and everything was spread out, and not where it is suppose to be,
and looks nothing like the real webpage. But when I view this page in IE7, it
looks like it is suppose to. There is no white background, and everything is
where it is suppose to be. What's going on here?

Thanks!

Hard to say without seeing the code. Can you post a link to the template
page, please? You will need to upload it to some webspace to do that.

I think what may be happening is that I can not upload my template to the FTP
website. It wants me to create a website (Local: on my computer), but I need it
actually uploaded to my website. How do I upload a template to my website?

Huh?

Are you working out of a defined local site? Have you defined BOTH a remote
site AND a testing server? Unless you are working with server scripting you
do not need the latter. Please set it to None.

I am working on a website with a .com address. But when I try to save the
template, it asks me to manage my site, when I am already in it, editing the
website. I have defined the website that I am working with. If there is a way,
I can show you a screenshot.

I get a message that pops-up when I try to save my template under my website
(FTP connection.) The message says "Dreamweaver stores templates in the root
folder of a site, but there are no sites defined. Please add a site."

I have set up a website, which uses FTP to connect to my server. Why does it
say add a site, when I already have one?

I can see that you don't quite understand what I am asking.

Please go to SITES | Manage Sites..., select the site name, and click on
Edit. Click on the Advanced tab at the top. Tell me the following -

Under LOCAL INFO
----------------------------
The contents of "Local root folder:"

Under REMOTE INFO
----------------------------
The contents of "FTP Host:"
The contents of "Host directory:"

Under TESTING SERVER
----------------------------
The contents of "Server model:"
The contents of "Access:"

(You may not see these items if you have "None" in the first)

When you look at the site name in the list of sites on the upper, left-hand
corner of the Files panel, do you see a folder icon or a computer icon?

If the latter, then you have not defined your site properly. You have no
local site, and templates will not work for you. You must define a NEW site
like this -

SITE | New > (select "Site" not "FTP & RDS Server")

Make it point to some location on your hard drive for the local root folder.
Now you will be able to save your template there.

When I click it, it brings up the "Configure Server" screen. Is there another
way I can get to the advance settings?

"Make it point to some location on your hard drive for the local root folder.

I did this, but this is another website on my hard drive. It will not let me
create a template, or upload it to the FTP site. I just made this other site
(regular site) so I could create the template, but when I apply the template to
a page, it does not look the same as the template.
