How Do I Import an Existing Website into Dreamweaver?

I would like to work on an existing website with Dreamweaver 8...

I cannot find any way to import a complete website, only ways to browse for
and open existing HTML pages.

Is there a way to simply import a complete site, complete with folders, files,
structure, etc and then work on and save or publish?

Google "web site copier".

Also, http://www.webassist.com has an extension called SiteAssist that can
do this for you.

If you already have a copy of the site on your computer, simply create a
new site definition in DW and specify the folder containing the web site
as the local site root. If you do not have a local copy of the site, you
will need to download the entire site first. Download it with an FTP
client or, as Murray suggested, a "web site copier".

Thank you to all! I can easily copy my site to my hard-drive... I've been using
Teleport Pro, (have not tried Google or WebAssist), but I cannot find a way to
make Dreamweaver "see" that it's a site... All I can do is browse and open
pages. Where's the "Import" button?

There is no IMPORT button for this. This is where the 'define a site'
process comes in handy. When you define the site to point into the root
folder for the site you just copied, then you will see all those files.

You need to clarify whether this is a site that you have ftp access to. If it
is, simply create a new local site and then 'Get' the remote files. If you
don't have FTP, the SiteAssist that Murray mentioned is a good option.

Sure. Define your site. Connect to it. Select all of the files on the
remote site, and GET them. Now you can edit the files locally.

BE SURE that when you define your site, you use SITE | New > Site, not SITE

As I just mentioned in a reply to your other post, press F1 and read about
defining a site. It is not merely to create the folders that store your files.
