Jason, I think that's the worst advice I've seen here is quite a long
time!

DW will not be fast and painless without a solid basis in HTML and CSS.
And even then, it won't be fast! :-)

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have one more question. Do you think it
would be smarter for me to start out using golive. I have heard it is a lot
easier, and the pages I need to put together will be simple pages. Thanks..

Are you planning on becoming a web designer/developer as your main
career, or do you just want to make a simple website for yourself?

I mainly just want to build a fairly simple web site. Our operations manager
will be taking a different job in the future and I need to be able to take
over the site. I also have plans to update the site with new content. Here is
the current site www.d-books.com I know he has built the current site in
golive. Thanks..

I don't know what to suggest. The site you showed me is very poorly put
together, it doesn't even have a DOC-TYPE declaration, so doesn't
validate, and throws the browser into quirks mode.

Do you have the time learn how to do it properly?
Is this your primary job?
Does your boss care that the site is poorly built?
Do they have the budget to buy Dreamweaver?

I would use DW over GL any day.

GoLive will perpetuate any bad habits you currently have; break free of it, make a new start with DW...
