Default HIT COUNTERS - 02-03-2006 , 07:23 PM

Hi,

I am a beginning web designer looking at putting a hit counter on a corporate
site, however I don't think this is possible without using programming like ASP
or some type of dynamic database

Is there any way to get it to work on a basic html/template based site? Or is
there any other way of determining the 'popularity' of a site?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hit counters are 'old hat' and pretty amateurish - particularly for a
corporate site.

I'd check with the host of the site, they will probably have a stats program
available for you to use. Much more reliable than a 'hits' counter.

try statcounter.com - the basic version is free (the 'pro' is only $9/month!) and it's great!

Nadia's correct here. Hit counters are a revealing sign of amateurism. In
addition, they aren't accurate in the least.

To measure a site's traffic, you need the log files and a good log reader.
Often the host company includes this (aka a stat program) as part of the
hosting arrangement. Like Nadia said, you may want to check with the host
company to see what they have available.

And it's very amateur.

Why put something like that on a corporate site?

Do they know how amateurish hit counters are?

Exactly. Just pushing up my posting statistics.

But actually until now nobody could explain the advantages or the
reasons to use a hit counter ... maybe because there are none?
