I built a website once using a fire applet and then quickly realized that IE
no longer supports that. In a different end of things I also downloaded
Mozilla (latest version) to see how this old site of mine rendered under a
newer browser. It' prompted me to install the necessary plug in to view the
applet and it even threw a plugin for IE. Yeehaw. So... wanna see your
applets and avoid downloading the who JSDK kit??? Download Mozilla browser
and you can even get the Flash plugin for Mozilla too. Good luck..

Do you *have* to use Java? It is bulky, and notoriously flaky when used on
the web. Are you sure?

To use the most recent version of Java you need the plug-in for your browser
from Sun - its part of the Java Run-time library (JRE) which you can get from
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/

The good news is that most PC manufacturers are starting to supply this as
part of new PC builds which should eliminate some of the historical problems
with Micrsoft's horribly non-standard and out-of-date JVM. Even so using
applets on a web site (rather than a intranet site or something where you know
the version of Java installed) is still rather problematical. Another option
is to write your applet to Java 1.1 which works with any version 4 browser.

Switching browsers to Mozilla is also a good plan
