Default Help with index - 11-07-2004 , 09:41 AM

I am trying to put a text book together, I want to have chapters that link to
indexes and then indexes that link to pages. Also want to have a button at the
bottom that says previouspage/nextpage. Is Dreamweaver a good application for
this type of work or would something else be better. There will be flash
animations on most pages and some video, also need it to work online. Basically
is it best to use Macromedia products or is there a better product out there. I
am not familiar with Macromedia but if this is the best way to do this then I
will familiarize myself.

That should be pretty easy to set-up, I have only ever used Dreamweaver and
I have no idea if there are any better products but I doubt it.

Actually that's a lie, I used Publisher 97 first off and couldn't understand
why my animated gifs didn't animate, a chap told me to download Dreamweaver
3 and I was so happy that my animated gifs bounced about.....Sheesh that
site was bad.

Hi LostJim,
The sort of presentation you are talking about (I think) would be realy well
suited to Macromedia Director. With this you can create a completely
interative product which can be saved as a "projector" (self contained,
locked up, can't be messed with package), put on CD and will run without the
end user needing any other software, not even a browser. For web use you can
convert this "movie" into a shock wave file (I think thats' the file type,
not done it myself). Director itself is a monster of a programme and is, in
my humble opinion as begginer, a work of pure genius on the part of
Macromedia as for all it's power it's actualy dead easy to get started with.
It is however an expensive package to buy for a one off, and does mean yet
more reading of books.
That's my penny worth,
Regards,
Gene Stevo.
