Default good webhosting company needed - 08-13-2009 , 08:16 AM

Hi,
I am managing about 15 sites and lots of domains and am unhappy with my
webhosting company. They are forever having email issues or the sites are
down for hours at a time too often and there is only email support that
never seems to get answered. So I am looking to move all my sites and
domains to another company that has better retention, unlimited POP emails
with SMTP (e.g. mail.my-domain.com). Good control panels would be good and
if they were customisable to allow my clients limited access that would be a
bonus.

Any suggestions from experience?
UK hosts preferred and with a contact telephone number too.

I've used easily.co.uk for one of my hosts - including one of my domain
names and email. Not had any problems but my needs are limited. There
is a control panel - not all that detailed - but there is also a phone
technical support.

I can't speak for POP mail with SMTP - in my ignorance I thought that
was a contradiction in terms. Incoming mail that I have used in the
past is either SMTP or POP3. I seems that not very many people offer
SMTP in these days - IMAP and POP3 - the latter being the most common.
Most offer only SMTP *out.

A friend uses virtualnames.co.uk for several sites and seems to get good
service but I don't know anything about it.

If you find the right one it would be interesting to hear of them.

Been with Lunar for about 8 years. Never down, just a mail problem now and then.

I meant that some hosts only allow you to have pop email. You have to use
your ISP to send email out. This is no good in a business situation as some
staff have laptops and want to be able to use their email accounts from
home, the office or other offices all with different ISP's.

Not sure I understand all that. I do know that, for example, many years
ago, Demon in the UK used SMTP for both down and up but are now using
POP3 for downloading.

On the other hand my main domain name for all my mail is on a POP3 mail
server with one host but I connect with several other ISPs and can
collect my mail from any of them - I even mirror my mail so that I can
download mail from my various boxes while on the road, using a T-Mobile
or Vodafone connection or any one of several WiFi hotspots (static or on
trains and buses) or dial up connections available to me - or my son's
ISP - and pick up the important stuff on my main computer again when I
get back. I collect from all my POP3 boxes at all times - not matter
what ISP I'm connected with.

For normal day to day connection I connect with broadband to one ISP and
collect mail from my domain name /mailbox host via broadband. In fact,
I also collect mail from 3 other personal business POP3 boxes with
different ISPs and, by agreement, 4 POP3 boxes for clients from
whatever connection I'm connected to at the time.

Mail is never "sent" to me - I just click connect or, with my main mail
program, have it timed to poll all POP3 boxes every 10 minutes.
