Should I 'piggyback' the site to my personal site so I can put it online so my client can see it? I have my personal site at http://www.davidrossdesign.us I'm not going to get an address for the restaurant site until I'm completely finished with the design of it. So should I, in the meantime, make the pages, say for example: davidrossdesign.us/menu ? davidrossdesign/aboutus, etc.?? Thanks for all the great help you all give, this forum has helped a ton. |

Good idea Steve. How would I password protect just the restaurant folder? I have some dreamweaver books here - it's probably explained in them. So when I create a page I will name it menu.htm and just put it in the restaurant folder? ? Also, are you American and you live in Hong Kong and do web design there? Cool. Man I know Im up late when im talking to people in Hong Kong. lol |

No, you name it index.htm and put it in the restaurant folder. otherwise you would need to type into the browser http://www.davidrossdesign.us/restaurant/menu.htm to activate it index.htm is a starting point which a browser looks for so there is no need to type for instance http://www.davidrossdesign.us/restaurant/index.htm |

I think Lossed in referring to someone reserving your preferred domain name ahead of you. Extreme cases of this are known as cybersquatting http://www.tipz.net/cybersquating.htm But it's common not to be able to get your first or second choice of domain name because they're already taken. If someone owns a domain name which you simply have to have, you may pay above market rates to purchase it from them. So, if you know the job is proceeding and have a signed contract in place, part of your service may be to reserve the domain name for the client - this is often one of the first steps you'd take. -- Regards John Waller |
