Yes, I believe you are right. It's best to look on the host's FAQ page
for the correct gateway to use.

In addition to the ideas others have given you about cybersquatting,
consider this - it can take a week or more for a domain name to
propogate. So get the hosting and the domain now; put up a coming soon
page on the hosting. (Most hosts do this when you buy an account
anyway.) That way, when you upload the site and you tell your client to
visit it, they can type http://www.mynewsite.invalid/ into their browser
and it'll come up; you'll be a hero.

How would I password protect just the restaurant folder?
You're on Apache; google for htaccess/htpassword.

Personally, I never do that. I don't want to take up space on my server
for my client.

I require that all clients set up hosting first, then I upload a 'test'
site for them to view and use for approvals throughout the development
process.

Should I 'piggyback' the site to my personal site so I can put it online so my
client can see it? I have my personal site at http://www.davidrossdesign.us
I'm not going to get an address for the restaurant site until I'm completely
finished with the design of it. So should I, in the meantime, make the pages,
say for example: davidrossdesign.us/menu ? davidrossdesign/aboutus, etc.??
Thanks for all the great help you all give, this forum has helped a ton.

OK guys, I woke up and have more questions...so the restaurant site i'm about
to start working on already has a http://oscars-restaurant.com..BUT, the guy
who owns this place used to have 2 restaurants in 2 locations - both named
Oscar's Restaurant. He sold one location, they kept the same name. So I wonder
how I can overwrite the existing site with my own or will I have to get a new
domain name? The reason I think im going to be overwriting the existing site is
I'm working on a print menu for him and on the mock-up menu he has the original
sites name printed on it. I'll call and ask. If he wants to keep same name just
new design how would I go about overwriting old site? Thanks
