Default global changes to site with no template access - 11-12-2004 , 10:09 AM

I've been asked to make global changes to a site that uses templates. The
original design company "disappeared" and after accessing the domain host's
server to download the files, there are no Library or Template folders, thus no
..dwt or .lbi files. The site has 300+ pages. Is there a way, besides detaching
each file from template, to make a change to the locked areas of the template?
The client has a limited budget. Thanks.

Recreating the Library items is trivial. Recreating the Templates might be
trivial or it might be impossible.

Can you show me one of the pages, please?

Can I email you a link? I would prefer not to show the client's actual page on the forum.

Problem solved. Kathy was in luck. None of the advanced templating
features of DMX had been used, so here process was simple -

0. Make a backup of the site!
1. Open any child page (make note of the template name in the head of the
page, the number of editable regions in the body of the page, and the names
of these editable regions).
2. Detach from the template using MODIFY | Templates > Detach from Template
3. Save it as a template using the FILE | Save as Template.... option, and
specify the same name used above (if you are prompted to update the site at
this point, you must DENY that prompt).
4. Define editable regions as needed, so that you have the same number each
with the same name as before.
5. Delete extraneous content from the editable regions, as needed.
6. Save the template and allow the site to be updated, if prompted.
