Default Getting & Putting...advice please - 07-05-2004 , 03:08 AM

I'm working on my first site and viewing it using my ISP prior to purchasing
domain etc.
As I'm progressing, I'm adding / changing various things on the pages then
simply uploading them.
IS THIS THE CORRECT WAY ? or should I be using the "get" option to work on
previously uploaded files?
Any advice gratefully received....as usual.

PFM

It's easier and faster to just edit and Preview In Browser your files
locally then upload when you're happy. This will show you how the page in
your just edited local file will be seen in a browser.
Once you're happy, you can then upload the final version of the file to the
web.

In other words, there's no need to upload your files after every single
edit.

You would use the Get option to get a file from the server which you don't
have locally (e.g you work in a team and someone else created it) or to get
a file from the server which is a later version than you already have on
your local hard drive (because, say, someone else edited it and you don't
have the latest copy on your local drive).

If you're the only person editing these files then there would be no need to
get any files since you are the only one putting newer files on your server
and so you already have the latest version locally.
