Default Ftp problems - 09-06-2006 , 07:58 AM

Hi there!

I am having big problems trying to upload a recently designed website. I
uploaded 2 other websites in the past and encountered no problems, but now, for
no apparant reason, every time I try to upload my latest creation, I manage to
connect to the host server and upload say, 1 image, then I get an 'internal
data error' message. I then try to reconnect but get a message saying that the
server is not responding. I have tried using WS_FTP Pro and I get the same
problem.

Originally I created this latest website in 'Erol', but had the problems
uploading, so, blaming that programme I totally recreated it in Dreamweaver.

I have contacted the company who host the server and they say there is no
problem at their end.

I have also tried to upload pages to the other 2 websites that I have created,
but, exact same problem, using either Dreamweaver or the other FTP programme.

The office I work in has a small peer to peer network, my computer (which is
Windows 2000) connects to the internet through another computer (which is
Windows XP). That computer is connected to the internet with a cable modem and
has a Firewall - Outpost, version 3.5. If that computer is rebooted I can
connect to the server okay again, but same problem, I can only upload the 1 one
file.

Nothing at all has been changed since I uploaded the first website. Passive
FTP is enabled on each of the websites. Does anyone have any idea why I should
be encountering these problems all of a sudden? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Such problems are almost always related to your firewall. That's where I
would spend my time looking.

Thanks for that Murray! I find it strange though, the same firewall has always been there and we've had no problems up until now.

Any chance there's a corrupted image? I have a feeling I've seen this
before.

a unix box I use is case sensitive in file names uploaded

the 26 lower case letters _ and - and 10 digits

only may be used

the error message is totally unhelpful
you get failed upload again and again until you spot your own error

and edit the file name
