Default FTP Hanging - 12-31-2008 , 02:46 PM

When I connect to, update, or try to change sites, I am constantly getting a
"Dreamweaver is currently interacting with a server" after I have completed an
upload or change. I have even left Dreamweaver open and connected for two hours
and come back to either upload or change to a different site, and it is still
interacting with the server. I have no such problems with my PC, and they have
the exact same site settings, except for the local folders. This happens with
all my sites, and the only way to get DW to stop interacting is to close it.
This happen with CS3 and CS4. Is DW so desperate for interaction that it cannot
let go of whatever server it connects to? ;-) This is one of the biggest
frustrations I have with DW CS3 & CS4 on my Mac.

I never use Dreamweaver's lousy FTP interface. There's just no way, it
seems, to actually tell what's really happening. I have been using
SmartFTP, myself, so I can actually see when tasks are completed.
Dreamweaver just gives you a basic "thing" but no information about what is
really happening, or how much more time is needed to complete it. Very
crappy.

Just as a counterpoint, DW's FTP is all I have ever used (or needed to use)
since DW2....

So much depends on your local environment and the server's setup.

Like Murray, I have only used DW FTP since version 2. However, when I moved
over to Mac with CS3, that is when I starting having the hang ups. I am
connecting to Microsoft web servers, and it happens regardless of provider on
both CS3 and CS4. I still have CS3 on one of my PC's and I do not have the
hanging problem there.

SmartFTP may work nicely, but it is PC. I looked at top Mac FTP clients like
Fetch 5 and Forklift 1.6, but either one alone does not organize well with dual
pane, site definitions, or synchronization. If the FTP worked as well as it had
previously, I would not have any issues.
