Default An FTP error occurred - Cannot make connection to host - 11-18-2003 , 11:10 PM

I am having great difficulty with MX ftp. I get the error above.

This used to work. I can successfully FTP with WS-FTP as well as from a command prompt.

My OS is Windows XP Pro, Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus, no firewall settings. These have not changed since it was working. Actually, it has been quite awhile since it worked. I don't get much time to develop websites, so when it first happened I just worked around it. I would like to get this working correctly, though.

The FTP log is dormant/empty/incommunicado. Nothing appears there whatever I do. I cannot enter FTP commands either. I have tried setting up a new site, I am my own ISP so I have the permissions correct (it did work and does from other programs).

If you could tell us what you have entered into the Remote Info tab of
Dreamweaver we may be able to help you more.

This can help too:

Setting up Dreamweaver's FTP connection

Access: FTP
FTP Host: 65.127.124.61
Host Directory: tap22.com/
Login: tapperator
Password: foobar (I'll be changing this soon as you could imagine!) Save is checked
The only other box that is checked on the page is Automatically upload files to server on save.

I looked at all those articles before I posted, but thanks.

I also know network traffic is not a problem, the test machines are under the same desk.

Change that password immediately!

I didn't mean for you to post your password too. If you want us to test-connect, then best call or e-mail in for TS so we can keep your data secure.

In either case, I successfully connected with this info; Did you make sure to check "Passive FTP" in the remote info? Did you try disabling the built-in Windows XP firewall?

I knew that about the password. The site is not real or live right now and I didn't think it would be a big deal even if someone crashed that server in two days. The password is changed.

Thanks.

I checked the Windows XP firewall, not enabled.
I checked passive mode, wasn't checked, now it is, still same result.

Very odd. Any routers in the way? Are you accessing things wirelessly?

I agree that it is odd.

My computer sits behind a router running NAT. I get the same error with a different site not on one of my company's servers in the same building.

Just for kicks, I just put both machines on the same subnet and still get the same result. I can ftp from other clients, not Dreamweaver's.

Try adding the NAT IP address in the Firewall setting of DW. Make sure
to use passive FTP.

No effect.

I haven 't tried reinstalling DW, not much time. I work remotely most of the time so I'm not there to put the CD in. What do you think?

I don't think it's a setting problem, since it used to work and nothing has changed of significance that I can recall.

I am getting an FTP error 530 cannot connect to host when I try to sychronize
my files. It says 530 error user cannot login. My settings are:
Access: FTP
FTP Host: this is filled in
Host Directory: this is filled in
Login: filled in
Password: filled in
Use passive FTP box is UNCHECKED
Use Firewall box UNCHECKED
Use SSH encrypted secure login box is UNCHECKED

Then on the next tab for the Firewall settings,
Show local files on right
Dependent files: Prompt on get box IS CHECKED
FTP transfer options box IS CHECKED
Firewall host box is BLANK
Put options box is UNCHECKED

I can FTP over to the server with no problem when I use ws_ftp.
